This is the front door to the house. As you can see, the house is a contemporary. It has fairly new vinyl siding, and a nice double pane storm door to keep winter outside. It's in a great, wooded location, with some terrific trees in the back yard (which we'll be seeing soon). |
Here I have walked into the house, and have turned around to look back out the front door. You can see the new tile in the hallway (it's vinyl, not ceramic), as well as the door to the coat closet for your guests to hang their wraps when they attend your incredible parties. (Barbeques in the backyard, perhaps?) |
Turning around again and walking into the house, I have come to the living room. This is the back wall, showing the view out into your back yard. Notice the full privacy fencing all around, as well as the mature trees that are on and surrounding the property. You can also see the newly painted walls (whole house was painted), as well as the new carpeting (whole house has brand new carpeting and pretty new tile, in the appropriate places). And, yes, that is a window air conditioner you see there. The house was built in the days before central air conditioning, so I have left you a window unit to keep you cool in the summer. You might not need it, though ... all the trees surrounding the house tend to keep it cool. Fear not! There is central heat (oil forced air) ... you can see a heat register in the floor of the living room. That back wall, by the way, is 16 feet long, so it should accommodate your enormous entertainment center very nicely. |
Here I've turned to my left, still in the living room, but now you can see the kitchen, ahead on the left, and the dining room, ahead on the right. That's the washer/dryer that you're seeing in the kitchen; the house isn't very large (but it's not $1,800.00/month, either!), so you have to fit things where you can. Lots can fit in the kitchen, though; it's 14 feet wide! You can see the new tile in the kitchen and the dining room (vinyl again, not ceramic). Notice how nice and sunny the dining room looks ... that's a bonus of contemporary houes, they tend to have large and lots of windows. We'll see more in the bedrooms (hopefully, you're a sun lover!) The door that you see on the far side of the dining room goes out to the side yard, which is behind the privacy fencing. |
This is the window in the dining room that let in all that sun we saw in the previous picture. Oh ... you will notice that these are high quality, double pane, vinyl sided replacement windows ... all the windows in the house are of the same type. |
I can't believe that I didn't take any general pictures of the kitchen while I was at the house (I live about 25 miles away); I would have shown you all the cabinet space you have. I guess that I got a bit carried away wanting to show you the newer appliances ... the refrigerator with all the sleek plastic innards, including on the door storage. The freezer compartment is above, and also has on the door storage. (I have a picture of that, but figured that it would be overkill to include it.) |
I don't want you to think that I have an appliance fixation, but the washer and dryer are pretty new, and decent models with lots of features. But the main reason for my showing you this picture is to point out the work space to the right of the washer/dryer. This is one of the two countertops in the kitchen, and one of the three storage areas. So you should have plenty of room to prepare for those lavish parties we talked about way back in the second picture. (And make sure you invite me!) If I looked to my left behind me, I'd see the sink and its countertop, along the front wall of the house, and there's additional cabinet space next to the refrigerator. Alas, I don't have pictures of that. |
Oh, wait, yes I do! But it includes yet another appliance ... the stove ... an almost new, mid-range model. To the right of the stove, you can see part of the counter and storage by the sink. It looks like either the countertop or the drawers are out of square; I'll have to check into that! It's amazing what you notice in a photograph that you didn't see with your naked eye. |
This is the front bedroom; the window to the right looks out the front of the house, and the window to the left looks out the side of the house. Again, notice the double pane, vinyl sided replacement windows; you'll see them all over the house, and I won't mention them again. This bedroom is about 12' x 10', although the wall by the door (which is directly behind me as I snap this picture) is only 8' long, from the front of the house to the opening for the door. Oh ... it just seems so natural, that I forgot to mention it ... there are two windows in this bedroom! A lot of houses you look at, you'll see one window in each room. But, like I said before, contemporaries have a lot of windows. Plus, this house was built a while ago (1956), back when builders didn't skimp on windows. Although the paint and carpet are, as I have already said, brand new throughout the house, and the tile is just a year old. |
Something else builders didn't skimp on back then ... ceiling fixtures. Every bedroom in this house has a ceiling fixture ... take a look at a new house, and you'll be lucky if you can find any. Every bedroom also has a closet, of course; you can see the front bedroom's closet in this picture, with hanging and flat storage space. |
This is the back bedroom, behind the bedroom we were just in. The window to the right looks out the same side of the house as does the side window in the front bedroom. And the window to the left looks out to the back yard. It looks like a jungle out there! If you like green things and flowers and stuff like that, this is a perfect opportunity for you! This bedroom is 12' x 12', with the wall containing the door being 10' long, going away from the back wall of the house (the wall to the left in this picture). The closet in this room is to the right behind me, and you can easily see where the ceiling fixture is. This picture doesn't show it, which is good, because I hate to keep saying that there's new carpeting throughout the house, but this bedroom does have a floor, too. Dang ... I forgot to mention ... that's two windows again! |
The middle bedroom is next to the back bedroom, also against the back of the house. Since it's in the middle of the house, it can only have one window (sigh), overlooking the back yard. The back bedroom, which we were just in, is off to the right (that wall isn't shown in this picture), and the living room (which we've already seen) is on the other side of the wall to the left. The middle bedroom is also the smallest bedroom, measuring 10' x 9'. The 9' is along the rear wall, in which you see the window. The 10' is the wall to the living room, although that wall on the living room side is actually 13', since it includes space for the closet in the middle bedroom. The living room is an irregular shape (not unusual in a contemporary), but the two longest walls are 16' (we've already seen that wall with the back window), and 13'. |
We've almost finished our tour of the inside of the house, but I guess we can't leave until we've seen the bathroom, can we? New tile on the floor, an easy to clean plastic surround around the tub, looks pretty much like a bathroom. Yes, there is just one bathroom in the house, which makes it a problem if you have a large family or are excessively vain, but that's part of the reason that I've priced the house at only $1,300. The last time I checked, there was a slightly larger house (with two and half baths, actually) available on the same street, for which they were asking $1,500. But, they don't allow pets; they don't even allow smokers! And their yard isn't privacy fenced. What you think? Is it worth $200 a month for the slightly larger house on those terms? I think I'm giving this house away at $1,300 ... hurry up and grab it! |
I couldn't leave the bathroom without showing you this. Some of you may never have seen anything like this, because they don't put these in houses any more. We're looking inside the medicine cabinet here, at the razor blade slot. When I was a kid, there was a razor blade slot in our medicine cabinet (we only had one bathroom, too ... that's the way houses were built back then!), and my father used to always shove his used razor blades down there. (As for me, well, I didn't shave when I was a kid.) I always wondered where they went ... did they fall down to the center of the earth? They probably just fell down between the studs holding up the walls, creating hazards for guys demolishing houses. (The one where I was a kid is still standing.) Maybe that's why medicine cabinets no longer contain razor blade slots. Come to think of it, with modern disposable razors, it's possible that some of you have never even seen razor blades! Other things to notice in this picture: the old style, full ceramic tile around part of the bathroom (it obviously fell apart around the tub and had to be replaced with the plastic liner), and the handy shelf thingie to the left. I'm gonna show you that in the next picture ... |
Admittedly, closet space is at a premium in the house (but I'm not gonna rant about what a bargain it is again!), so these shelves over the toilet give you room to store whatever you need to. You can also see that there is a sink in the bathroom ... but I suppose you probably kind of expected that, no? |
Time for a tour of the back yard. This is the driveway, on the left side of the house as you face it from the street. The two windows you see in the picture are to the kitchen. Oh ... that's worth noting, too ... you have ample off-street parking here ... your own personal driveway. Behind the driveway, you can see the privacy fence, which extends all the way around the back of the house. There's a gate where those lighter colored boards are (some had rotted away and had to be replaced). You can also see the dining room door behind the fence. |
And here we are looking in through that dining room door. You can see the new tile in the dining room (I know you've seen that before) and the new carpet in the living room beyond. The edge of the fence against the house can be seen to the right ... we're behind the fence now ... in our own private, fenced yard! |
Here's the back yard, looking back from the house to the shed. The shed is a good size, and will let you store all kinds of extra stuff that you don't want to keep in the house. Again, you can see all the lovely trees in the neighborhood, and you will also note that the yard is flat, so you can set up a volleyball net or a badminton net or a hot tub or a swimming pool or have whatever kind of bacchanalias you want behind your privacy fencing. Well, if you get too loud and wild, I bet that the neighbors will figure out a way to peek over or through. |
Walking around the fence from the previous picture, past the shed and around to the right, we come back to the house, where we'll complete our tour for today. Check out those great trees, providing cooling shade for the summer. Although there is that air conditioner in the living room window, as you can see here, if that's not enough for you. To the left of that you see the windows to the middle bedroom (in the middle) and the back bedroom (on the left). Of course, you can add any window air conditioners you want if you like it really cold when you sleep! |
